Population:  The population of Venezuela is about 26,023,500 (2007), consisting of Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Arab, German and African ethnicities.

Capital: Caracas, with a population of about 3,276,000, is the capital of Venezuela.

Religion: Roman Catholicism is the predominant religion.

Official Language: Spanish is the official language of Venezuela.

Government: Venezuela has a federal republic government.

Climate: Venezuela experiences a tropical climate which is hot and humid, albeit it is moderate in the highlands.

Units of measure and electricity: Venezuela follows the metric system; the official electricity unit is 120 V, 60 Hz.

Time Zone: Venezuela’s standard time zone is GMT – 4.

Currency: Bolivar (1 € = 2,865.73 VEB).

Travel documents required: Americans, UK nationals, Canadians, Australians, South Africans, New Zealanders and the Irish require a Tourist Entry Card; all other nationals require a visa.
Economy

Venezuela has a mixed economy, which is completely dependent on the petroleum sector. The agricultural sector is also very integral to Venezuelan economy. The products of coffee and cocoa have tremendous export potential.

The most expensive place in the country is Caracas while the least expensive is Merida. The most inexpensive way to travel between cities is buses. Though more expensive, taxis are better while travelling within a city.
